Common Mistakes New Propane Homeowners Should Avoid

Waiting Too Long to Schedule a Refill

A common error is to call for propane when the tank is almost empty. Seasonal and weather conditions may cause delivery schedules to change at times of peak demand. Homeowners can save money by checking the tank gauge regularly to ensure they can refuel the tank in time. The proactive fuel management helps ensure continuous service.

Ignoring Routine Tank Inspections

Unfortunately, many new homeowners think that propane tanks don’t need much attention. Regular visual checks for chipped paint, surface rust, dents or other visible changes are a part of preventative maintenance. Early observation improves equipment longevity. Reliability is improved with routine care.

Blocking Access to the Tank

Access to the propane tank should not be blocked with landscaping material, outdoor furniture, fencing or holiday decorations, storage items. Clear pathways for inspections, maintenance and fuel deliveries. Good accessibility improves service efficiency.

Forgetting Seasonal Maintenance

Each season has its own maintenance requirements. Proper vegetation management, snow clearance in the winter, and year round good drainage all contribute to reliable propane system operation. Seasonal care is a way to preserve your investment.

Not Understanding Propane Usage

If you’re one of the many homeowners who has been caught off guard by higher propane usage during the winter season, you are not alone. Propane appliances like heating systems, water heaters, fireplaces, and others tend to run harder during colder weather. Knowing how much fuel to expect during the season enables homeowners to better schedule their deliveries.

Attempting DIY Propane Repairs

Only qualified people should be servicing propane equipment. Call your propane supplier if any equipment issues can be seen or if you have questions about your propane system. Professional service provides safe and reliable service.

Avoid simple oversights that can affect your propane system's performance

Good Habits Every Propane Homeowner Should Develop

Monitor Fuel Levels Regularly

Regularly checking the propane tank gauge helps you know when the tank is running low on propane. Regular monitoring supports convenient delivery scheduling. Long-term planning is enhanced by fuel awareness.

Schedule Annual Professional Maintenance

Regular inspections enable qualified techs to assess equipment that can be accessed, provide recommended preventative maintenance, and ensure reliable equipment performance. Annual service ensures equipment life. Preventative care enhances reliability.

Keep the Tank Area Clean

Keep it clean all year around the propane tank with leaves, branches, weeds, grass clippings and other debris. Good air circulation is created by clean surroundings. Good housekeeping aids maintenance. Clear access enhances convenience.

Trim Nearby Vegetation

For some homeowners, the choice of underground propane tanks is for their aesthetic appeal or to make the most of the yard space. Tanks are also offered in a variety of sizes, and underground tanks are as reliable as above-ground tanks when they are maintained properly.

Maintain Good Drainage

Check the area periodically for proper drainage of propane from the area of installation. Good drainage supports long-term site maintenance. Dry environments help to protect equipment.

Build a Relationship With Your Propane Supplier

Your propane supplier can provide you with great tips for maintenance, delivery planning, seasonal advice and questions concerning your propane system. Reliable service is provided with regular communication.

Fall

Plan for inspections before cold weather starts; check for fuel levels; and ready heating units for higher usage in the season. Planning helps prepare for winter.

1. Eligibility and Program Requirements
To qualify for and maintain enrollment in the LP Propane Ignite Program and receive the $0.05 per gallon fuel discount, the Customer must simultaneously enroll in and maintain active status in the following three core services:

Auto Fill Delivery: The Customer authorizes LP Propane to automatically monitor, schedule, and deliver propane to the designated tank when levels dictate, bypassing the standard Will Call scheduling requirements.

Auto Pay: The Customer must maintain a valid, authorized payment method on file (Credit Card, Debit Card, or ACH/Direct Draft). Invoices will be automatically drafted within 7 days after the delivery.

Paperless Billing: The Customer agrees to receive all invoices, statements, and program communications via email. Opting out of online billing or requesting paper statements will result in a $4.95 monthly fee and disqualification from the program.

2. Fuel Discount Terms

The $0.05 per gallon discount applies exclusively to the standard market rate of propane at the exact time of delivery.

The discount is applied automatically on invoice.

This discount cannot be combined with specific commercial contract pricing or volume discounts unless expressly authorized in writing by LP Propane.

3. Tank Monitoring and Delivery Access

LP Propane may utilize physical tank monitors or advanced usage-tracking algorithms to schedule deliveries.

Access Requirements: The Customer must ensure the propane tank is always completely accessible to delivery personnel and vehicles. The pathway must be free of obstacles, locked gates, debris, or unrestrained animals within a 100-foot radius.

Seasonal Maintenance: During winter months, the Customer is legally responsible for clearing snow, ice, and paths leading to the tank. If a delivery vehicle cannot safely access the tank, the delivery will be delayed, and any emergency filling fees incurred due to subsequent low fuel levels will be billed to the Customer.

4. Credit Status and Payment Failures

If an Auto Pay transaction is declined or fails for any reason (e.g., expired card, insufficient funds), the Customer must update their account billing details immediately. If the transaction remains unprocessed for 30 days despite attempts by LP Propane to contact the Customer, the account will be automatically unenrolled from the program.

If an account balance becomes past due, LP Propane reserves the right to suspend Auto Fill privileges, pause the $0.05 per gallon discount, and transition the account to a "Will Call / Cash on Delivery" basis until the account is brought current and after review and approval of LP Propane’s credit department.

5. Program Termination or Changes

Customer Termination: Removing any of the mandatory components (Auto Fill, Auto Pay, or Paperless Billing) constitutes voluntary termination from the program. If you would like to opt out of the Ignite program you must submit 30 day written notice

Company Modifications: LP Propane reserves the right to alter, modify, or terminate the Ignite Program framework, including discount amounts or underlying eligibility terms.
