Winter is the season for camping for many RV enthusiasts. Quiet and snowy campsites are excellent for the adventurous camper. However, there is a catch to this: warmth. Because RVs do not use home heating systems, the camper must find a way to heat up. A good heat source is often what can turn a cozy winter retreat into an uncomfortable, sometimes hazardous, stay. Among the many heaters available, propane heaters are one of the most popular among RV campers. They are very efficient, portable, and heat quickly, which is very important in a small, confined space. Propane heaters also have the advantage of not relying on an RV’s battery to operate, so they are perfect for off-grid camping. Because propane heaters produce carbon monoxide, it is crucial to select one that has excellent safety features specifically designed for indoor or RV use. We shall discuss here the top five safest propane heaters to use in RV camping 2024, plus other important tips to ensure your warmth and safety when using propane heaters during the cold winter seasons.

Important Safety Tips When Using Propane Heaters in RVs

The first priority using a propane heater in an RV should always be safety. Propane heaters are efficient and convenient, but there is danger if they are used in the wrong manner. Some key tips on how to safely operate this device are listed below:

  1. Ensure Proper Ventilation
  2. Select a Heater That Suits the Size of Your RV
  3. Keep it well clear
  4. Check for Leaks

Ensure Proper Ventilation

Proper ventilation is required in propane heaters. They work so efficiently that carbon monoxide may build up in poorly vented areas. Therefore, it is always advisable to have a window or a vent slightly open before operating the heater.

Always make sure that the RV has a carbon monoxide (CO) detector. If it has a propane heater, it surely will need one. Really, a CO detector will save your life and will keep you from carbon monoxide poisoning if it alerts you in time to open some windows and ventilate your space when it discovers hazardous levels of CO in your air.

Select a Heater That Suits the Size of Your RV

You should ensure that you choose the right heater for the size of your RV. Sometimes heaters that are designed for large spaces tend to overheat the smaller RVs. Sometimes small spaces with underpowered heaters will not keep warm at low temperatures. You should look for heaters that suit the dimensions of your RV.

Keep it well clear

Because propane heaters burn hot fast, you’ll want to make sure there are no types of flammable materials within proximity- bedding, curtains, for example. To avoid danger from fires, at least three feet on each side of the heater must always be kept clear.

Check for Leaks

Check all your propane connections before using. Check for leaks using a soap and water solution, where a leak will appear as a bubble, and these can be repaired before using the heater.

LP Propane Ignite Program – Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility and Program Requirements
To qualify for and maintain enrollment in the LP Propane Ignite Program and receive the $0.05 per gallon fuel discount, the Customer must simultaneously enroll in and maintain active status in the following three core services:

Auto Fill Delivery: The Customer authorizes LP Propane to automatically monitor, schedule, and deliver propane to the designated tank when levels dictate, bypassing the standard Will Call scheduling requirements.

Auto Pay: The Customer must maintain a valid, authorized payment method on file (Credit Card, Debit Card, or ACH/Direct Draft). Invoices will be automatically drafted within 7 days after the delivery.

Paperless Billing: The Customer agrees to receive all invoices, statements, and program communications via email. Opting out of online billing or requesting paper statements will result in a $4.95 monthly fee and disqualification from the program.

2. Fuel Discount Terms

The $0.05 per gallon discount applies exclusively to the standard market rate of propane at the exact time of delivery.

The discount is applied automatically on invoice.

This discount cannot be combined with specific commercial contract pricing or volume discounts unless expressly authorized in writing by LP Propane.

3. Tank Monitoring and Delivery Access

LP Propane may utilize physical tank monitors or advanced usage-tracking algorithms to schedule deliveries.

Access Requirements: The Customer must ensure the propane tank is always completely accessible to delivery personnel and vehicles. The pathway must be free of obstacles, locked gates, debris, or unrestrained animals within a 100-foot radius.

Seasonal Maintenance: During winter months, the Customer is legally responsible for clearing snow, ice, and paths leading to the tank. If a delivery vehicle cannot safely access the tank, the delivery will be delayed, and any emergency filling fees incurred due to subsequent low fuel levels will be billed to the Customer.

4. Credit Status and Payment Failures

If an Auto Pay transaction is declined or fails for any reason (e.g., expired card, insufficient funds), the Customer must update their account billing details immediately. If the transaction remains unprocessed for 30 days despite attempts by LP Propane to contact the Customer, the account will be automatically unenrolled from the program.

If an account balance becomes past due, LP Propane reserves the right to suspend Auto Fill privileges, pause the $0.05 per gallon discount, and transition the account to a "Will Call / Cash on Delivery" basis until the account is brought current and after review and approval of LP Propane’s credit department.

5. Program Termination or Changes

Customer Termination: Removing any of the mandatory components (Auto Fill, Auto Pay, or Paperless Billing) constitutes voluntary termination from the program. If you would like to opt out of the Ignite program you must submit 30 day written notice

Company Modifications: LP Propane reserves the right to alter, modify, or terminate the Ignite Program framework, including discount amounts or underlying eligibility terms.
