The Ultimate 2025 Guide to Residential Propane Delivery Rates by State

Propane is the most widely used fuel across all of the United States, from residential home heating systems to water heaters, cook stoves and ranges, and emergency generators. Its convenience is that it is clean-burning, consistent, and will work where there are no natural gas lines. One of the most frequent questions for most homeowners, though, is: How expensive is propane delivery in my state? Delivery prices of propane to residential uses are quite different from place to place based on where you live, weather, demand, and supply chain logistics. Up to 2025, when the context of energy markets is set by inflation, supply chain networks, and increased demand for alternative fuel supplies, prices for propane still differ state to state. This handbook approximates delivery prices, shows rate determinants, and offers propane conservation tips, regardless of where you’re located.

Determinants of State Propane Prices

Conditions must be determined prior to comparative propane delivery prices between states.

Geographic location and access to supply terminals

Propane is sent through a pipeline, rail, and truck fleet. The states near the main supply terminals like the Gulf Coast will have lower rates of delivery. States far from the major terminals like Maine or Montana will be charged more since the delivery will be longer.

Seasonal Weather Conditions

Seasonal demand would be a major factor in setting the price of propane. Northern states such as Minnesota or Wisconsin would experience delivery prices to increase during severe cold snaps, while southern states would experience more level year-round prices.

Local Regulations and Taxes

Propane is governed by the states regarding storage, delivery, and environmental taxes. Stricter safety codes or a higher fuel tax will ultimately translate into consumer costs.

Supply and Demand Volatility

Propane agricultural uses, including Midwest crop drying, can generate peak-season summer demand spikes that drive up delivery prices even for home customers.

Tank Capacity and Delivery Frequency

Large tank capacity decreases the number of deliveries, a long-term cost savings. Users of small cylinders might pay more per-gallon for delivery.

Contract vs. Will-Call Pricing

Fixed-rate contracts are possible with locked-in contracts, but will-call delivery (propane purchased only as needed) exposes homeowners to surprise price spikes, especially in the high-demand months.

2025 Propane Delivery Prices: State-by-State Breakdown

Residential propane delivery prices vary widely across the U.S. The overall average is $2.10 to $3.20 per gallon in 2025, but regional variations remain the norm.

Northeastern States

Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire will most likely face higher propane prices because of lower winter temperatures and dependence on long-distance supply chains. Average prices for delivery in 2025 range between $3.00 and $3.50 per gallon, with the highest during January and February.

Midwest States

Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota are close to supply centers but are hit by seasonal peaking demand for agriculture. Prices range from $2.30 to $2.80 per gallon as harvesting season in autumn leads to short-term spikes.

Southern States

Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana have the lowest propane delivery prices in the nation, ranging from $2.00 to $2.40 a gallon in 2025. Low winter demand and proximity to Gulf Coast refineries keep costs down.

Western States

California, Oregon, and Washington are more expensive due to shipping fees and tight environmental regulations. Prices in 2025 range from $2.90 to $3.40 a gallon.

Mountain States

Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana depend heavily on propane for agricultural and rural dwellings. Delivery fees are $2.60 to $3.10 per gallon with extra fees in mountainous distant areas.

Alaska and Hawaii

Alaska has unique circumstances with delivery fees for propane at $4.00+ per gallon in inaccessible areas with very severe transport conditions. Hawaii also pays higher rates at the rate of $3.80 to $4.20 per gallon for shipment.

Propane Delivery Charge Control Tips

Lock a Fixed Price

Fixed propane rates before the winter peak season guarantees stability and protects you from unexpected market increases.

Get with a Propane Co-Op

Homeowner co-ops enable individuals to share demand, purchase in bulk, and eliminate delivery costs significantly.

Get a Larger Tank

Adding a super-sized tank minimizes delivery frequency and enables topping up in off-season when prices are lower.

Monitor Market Trends

Hedging propane market projections allows you to refuel at discounted prices as projections fall, avoiding high winter delivery fees.

Optimize Home Efficiency

Weatherization, insulation upgrades, and installing energy-efficient appliances reduce propane consumption, saving you on total delivery fees.

Opt for Budget Payment Plans

Most dealers provide monthly payment plans to split expenses, keeping propane affordable throughout the year.

U.S. vs Canadian Propane Delivery Costs

Even as American citizens grapple with pan-spectrum propane delivery expenses, so do Canadian residents. Propane costs approximately $1.20–$1.50 CAD per liter (and thus $3.50–$4.40 USD per gallon) in 2025 in Canada. Ontario and Quebec, which are more heating-intensive provinces, pay higher than western provinces. Remote and rural Canadian communities, especially those in the Yukon and Northwest Territories, pay some of the most expensive for propane delivery because of transport challenges.

The Function of Technology in Providing Propane

Technology in 2025 revolutionizes the provision of propane to home residences. Automatic real-time fuel monitoring tank gauges track actual levels of fuel and automatically notify suppliers to replenish tanks when they are running low. Cellular-based programs enable residents to quickly compare prices among local suppliers and request delivery with a single click of a button. Suppliers also utilize fleet management software to route optimize, decreasing the cost of delivery and passing the savings on to customers.

Smarter Propane Choices in 2025

Propane is a proven and tested fuel for home heating, cooking, and standby power across the United States. That being said, delivery cost can vary greatly by region, weather, tank size, and market. Homeowners can be more informed when making decisions, whether it’s enrolling in deals, joining co-ops, or stepping up to bigger tank capacity, by understanding what influences propane costs in your state. As 2025 becomes history, those savvy homeowners who understand the cost of propane delivery nowadays and who keep track of usage with technology won’t only be saving dollars but will also have the confidence of knowing they possess energy that will positively be accessible.

LP Propane Ignite Program – Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility and Program Requirements
To qualify for and maintain enrollment in the LP Propane Ignite Program and receive the $0.05 per gallon fuel discount, the Customer must simultaneously enroll in and maintain active status in the following three core services:

Auto Fill Delivery: The Customer authorizes LP Propane to automatically monitor, schedule, and deliver propane to the designated tank when levels dictate, bypassing the standard Will Call scheduling requirements.

Auto Pay: The Customer must maintain a valid, authorized payment method on file (Credit Card, Debit Card, or ACH/Direct Draft). Invoices will be automatically drafted within 7 days after the delivery.

Paperless Billing: The Customer agrees to receive all invoices, statements, and program communications via email. Opting out of online billing or requesting paper statements will result in a $4.95 monthly fee and disqualification from the program.

2. Fuel Discount Terms

The $0.05 per gallon discount applies exclusively to the standard market rate of propane at the exact time of delivery.

The discount is applied automatically on invoice.

This discount cannot be combined with specific commercial contract pricing or volume discounts unless expressly authorized in writing by LP Propane.

3. Tank Monitoring and Delivery Access

LP Propane may utilize physical tank monitors or advanced usage-tracking algorithms to schedule deliveries.

Access Requirements: The Customer must ensure the propane tank is always completely accessible to delivery personnel and vehicles. The pathway must be free of obstacles, locked gates, debris, or unrestrained animals within a 100-foot radius.

Seasonal Maintenance: During winter months, the Customer is legally responsible for clearing snow, ice, and paths leading to the tank. If a delivery vehicle cannot safely access the tank, the delivery will be delayed, and any emergency filling fees incurred due to subsequent low fuel levels will be billed to the Customer.

4. Credit Status and Payment Failures

If an Auto Pay transaction is declined or fails for any reason (e.g., expired card, insufficient funds), the Customer must update their account billing details immediately. If the transaction remains unprocessed for 30 days despite attempts by LP Propane to contact the Customer, the account will be automatically unenrolled from the program.

If an account balance becomes past due, LP Propane reserves the right to suspend Auto Fill privileges, pause the $0.05 per gallon discount, and transition the account to a "Will Call / Cash on Delivery" basis until the account is brought current and after review and approval of LP Propane’s credit department.

5. Program Termination or Changes

Customer Termination: Removing any of the mandatory components (Auto Fill, Auto Pay, or Paperless Billing) constitutes voluntary termination from the program. If you would like to opt out of the Ignite program you must submit 30 day written notice

Company Modifications: LP Propane reserves the right to alter, modify, or terminate the Ignite Program framework, including discount amounts or underlying eligibility terms.
