Finding Propane Refills: Where Convenience Meets Necessity

A heads-up on where to find propane is half the battle before you hit the road. Here’s how to keep fueling up without the uncertainty.

Find RV propane refill near you Wisely

Spend a minute Googling Mappin’ or searching on apps like GasBuddy or AllStays to locate the closest propane filling station. Be specific—entering “RV propane refill near me” will narrow it down to RV-friendly places, not miscellaneous gas stations.

Look at RV Parks and Campgrounds

Some RV camps offer in-park propane refilling for convenience. Check first if they offer refillable propane tank service or cylinder exchange.

Stop at Hardware Stores

Chains like Tractor Supply Co., U-Haul, Ace Hardware, and even Walmart fill propane cylinders. Always call first to ensure their tanks and equipment are RV-sized.

Refill Propane Fuel Stops

Truck stops and highway fuel stops typically have large propane facilities. Look for Flying J, Pilot, or Love’s Travel Stops for RV-compatible refills.

Ask Locals or Camp Hosts

Locals or campground hosts will typically know the nearest locations to refill a propane cylinder when traveling into remote areas. Don’t hesitate to ask!

Mobile Propane Refill Services

There are certain cities where mobile propane refill vans will come to your place and fill up your refillable propane tank. Super convenient when you’re going to be in one place for a while and don’t want to have to unplug everything.

Find the nearest refill, keep your RV running like a pro!

Refillable Cylinders: Why They're Better for RV Life

With refillable propane tank choices instead of throwaway cylinders, you have flexibility, savings, and a softer effect on the planet.

Refill Rather Than Swap

All gas stations and supermarkets offer swap options, but to refill a propane refill tank gives more propane for less money.

Economical in the Long Term

Purchasing and refilling a propane cylinder is far cheaper in the long term than disposable or pre-filled cylinders. You only pay for the fuel, not the container.

Less Waste and Environmentally Friendly

Fewer disposable cylinders mean less landfill waste. A quality refillable propane tank can last 10+ years.

Made for RV Use

Refillable tanks tend to come with the gauges installed and are DOT-approved for travel, which is a good thing for RVers.

Increased Convenience, Larger Capacities

20lb standard tanks are adequate, but boondocking, 30lb or 40lb propane cylinder capacities offer increased runtime with less frequent refilling.

Easy to Monitor

Refillable tanks enable you to have outside propane monitors or utilize built-in gauges to keep tabs on levels and not be short in the middle of a barbecue.

Safety First: How to Handle and Transport Propane

Always Turn Off Appliances First

Before turning off any refillable propane tank, make sure all appliances that use propane are switched off.

Tanks Secure For Transport

When you go to fill up, keep the propane cylinder upright and secure in a well-ventilated area, never inside an enclosed RV or vehicle.

Check for Leaks Regularly

Use a soapy water solution to detect leaks on fittings and valves. If you see bubbles, you’ve got a leak, don’t use it.

Don't Overfill

Overfilled tanks can spill propane out of the safety valve, making them hazardous. Always go to an authorized fill station that is up to code.

No Flames or Sparks

Propane is flammable. When using a propane cylinder, don’t use lighters or create sparks within reach of you.

Storage

Store your refillable propane tank outside or ventilated storage areas. Try not to leave tanks in the direct sun or lock them in a hot vehicle.

Propane Usage Learning on Your RV

Your RV most likely has propane usage for something besides the stove alone. That is how it powers major systems. Many of your RV appliances; your furnace, refrigerator, and water heater are powered by propane. It’s also used for the grill and some portable generators. Knowing how each system consumes propane controls your supply in a smart way. Your furnace, for example, can burn up a lot of propane in extreme cold temperatures, whereas your refrigerator uses a great deal less. Keep an eye on usage and mix up your consumption, always, especially when boondocking or off-grid.

When to Refill: How to Monitor Your Supply

To be out of propane at the wrong moment is more than an inconvenience—a sabotage of a trip. Here’s how not to happen. Most propane cylinder designs come with a basic level gauge, but it’s not always accurate. Consider installing a digital propane tank gauge that links to your cell phone. It will give you real-time readings of how much fuel you have left. As a general guideline, fill up when the tank is about 20–30% full. Don’t wait until it empties so that you don’t get airlocks or interrupted gas flow to your system.

Wrapping It Up: Stay Warm, Cook Easy, and Travel Smart

A refillable propane tank is your RV’s lifeline powering everything from your morning coffee to late-night heating. By learning how to find an RV propane refill near me, safely handle your propane cylinder, and maintain your tank, you’re not just avoiding cold nights or uncooked meals, you’re setting yourself up for stress-free adventures.

LP Propane Ignite Program – Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility and Program Requirements
To qualify for and maintain enrollment in the LP Propane Ignite Program and receive the $0.05 per gallon fuel discount, the Customer must simultaneously enroll in and maintain active status in the following three core services:

Auto Fill Delivery: The Customer authorizes LP Propane to automatically monitor, schedule, and deliver propane to the designated tank when levels dictate, bypassing the standard Will Call scheduling requirements.

Auto Pay: The Customer must maintain a valid, authorized payment method on file (Credit Card, Debit Card, or ACH/Direct Draft). Invoices will be automatically drafted within 7 days after the delivery.

Paperless Billing: The Customer agrees to receive all invoices, statements, and program communications via email. Opting out of online billing or requesting paper statements will result in a $4.95 monthly fee and disqualification from the program.

2. Fuel Discount Terms

The $0.05 per gallon discount applies exclusively to the standard market rate of propane at the exact time of delivery.

The discount is applied automatically on invoice.

This discount cannot be combined with specific commercial contract pricing or volume discounts unless expressly authorized in writing by LP Propane.

3. Tank Monitoring and Delivery Access

LP Propane may utilize physical tank monitors or advanced usage-tracking algorithms to schedule deliveries.

Access Requirements: The Customer must ensure the propane tank is always completely accessible to delivery personnel and vehicles. The pathway must be free of obstacles, locked gates, debris, or unrestrained animals within a 100-foot radius.

Seasonal Maintenance: During winter months, the Customer is legally responsible for clearing snow, ice, and paths leading to the tank. If a delivery vehicle cannot safely access the tank, the delivery will be delayed, and any emergency filling fees incurred due to subsequent low fuel levels will be billed to the Customer.

4. Credit Status and Payment Failures

If an Auto Pay transaction is declined or fails for any reason (e.g., expired card, insufficient funds), the Customer must update their account billing details immediately. If the transaction remains unprocessed for 30 days despite attempts by LP Propane to contact the Customer, the account will be automatically unenrolled from the program.

If an account balance becomes past due, LP Propane reserves the right to suspend Auto Fill privileges, pause the $0.05 per gallon discount, and transition the account to a "Will Call / Cash on Delivery" basis until the account is brought current and after review and approval of LP Propane’s credit department.

5. Program Termination or Changes

Customer Termination: Removing any of the mandatory components (Auto Fill, Auto Pay, or Paperless Billing) constitutes voluntary termination from the program. If you would like to opt out of the Ignite program you must submit 30 day written notice

Company Modifications: LP Propane reserves the right to alter, modify, or terminate the Ignite Program framework, including discount amounts or underlying eligibility terms.
